The Board of Directors are committed to creating systemic change within Theatre To Go, Inc. and building an anti-racist and inclusive culture. For ease of terminology/readability the term BIPOC will be used throughout this statement to include all Black, Indigenous, Native American, Latinx, Chicanx, Arab, MENASA (Middle Eastern, North African, South Asian), Asian, Pacific Islander, and other communities of color, especially those who are Disabled/Deaf and/or LGBTQIA+/Two-Spirit.)
Artists have a platform and responsibility to drive conversations about difficult topics, including: white supremacy, racism, implicit bias, police brutality. The mission of Theatre To Go, Inc. has always been to provide thought-provoking theater. We do not believe that this mission can be fully accomplished until we acknowledge and confront our country’s history of colonization, imperialism and the injustices that have been committed against the BIPOC community.
Theatre To Go, Inc. is committed to making the following immediate changes in support of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion:
– Having at least 25% of actors and crew members working on any given show being BIPOC for our upcoming season.
– Producing at least one show per season written by a BIPOC playwright beginning in our 2021-2022 season.
– Adding at least two BIPOC members to our Board of Directors by the start of our 2022 season.
– A long term plan is currently being crafted by the Board of Directors and will be made available to our membership when it is complete.
The Board of Directors would like to invite the membership to be cohorts in this work. If you have any feedback about the implementation of these proposed changes, please email us at theatretogoedi@gmail.com. This statement will also continue to evolve and change as the Board of Directors grow and learn.
